Costa Rica Day 3
To start off the day, we had eggs, rice, beans, and fresh fruit for breakfast. After breakfast we went into the rainforest and looked at a mature colony of ants. We went over an demo on how to collect a fungus garden. After the demo we had lunch. When we finished lunch we went to go zip lining in the exhilarating canopy. We had to hike through the cloud forest to get to the first zip line. On the way to the first zip line we saw monkeys in the trees. When we zip lined sometimes mud would get in our face but you wouldn't notice until you finish the zip line and someone tells you. Concluding the amazing view of the zip lining we collected our own fungus garden. During the collection many termites were flying around us and just being flat out annoying. After the collection more came and flew around our porches of the cabins. Adrian Pinto made a joke saying we were being held hostage by the termites. The reason why there were so many that were flying was because the termites were in nuptial flight and were mating. After we were able to get out of our cabins and away from the termites we had dinner. After the amazing dinner we went on a night walk to discover the many creatures that come out at night. You can actually see more creatures at night due to the phenomenon called eye shining. If you have a headlamp or hold your flashlight in the same plane as your eye site, the eyes of the creatures shine back at you. It's creepy! We saw spiders, frogs, snakes, night hawks, and moths. To finish off the day we got a good night sleep to prepare for day four. Pictures below!
